The Hornets were busy prior to the NBA trade deadline on February 9, making a pair of moves to reshape its roster. Charlotte sent Jalen McDaniels to the Philadelphia 76ers in a three-team trade that also involved the Portland Trail Blazers. In return, the Hornets received four second-round draft picks, two each from Portland and Philadelphia, and guard Svi Mykhailiuk. McDaniels averaged 10.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2 assists in 56 games for Charlotte before the transaction.
Two hours later, Charlotte traded Mason Plumlee to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Reggie Jackson and a 2028 second-round pick. The Hornets also received cash considerations as part of the deal. Plumlee was averaging a career-best 12.3 points this season with Charlotte.
The Hornets have five picks in the 2023 NBA Draft and 16 over the course of the next six years.
