A successful entrepreneur with over two decades of experience in the retail mattress industry, Edwin Shoffner serves as president of Mattress by Appointment in Greenville, South Carolina. Outside of his activities at the company, Edwin Shoffner is an avid scuba diver who holds several advanced certifications from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), including Rescue Diver certification.

PADI’s Rescue Diver course is perhaps the most difficult certification to gain and is typically the terminal point of a professional diving instructor’s learning curriculum. This certification helps train divers to deal with emergencies that can occur on a dive, from identifying potentially dangerous situations to practical rescue exercises that they might need to perform, including self-rescue. In order to be eligible for the certification, a diver must have completed CPR and First Aid training no more than two years prior to taking the course.
