Charlotte Hornets Name New Play-By-Play Announcer

Possessing almost two decades of experience as a mattress retailer, Edwin Shoffner serves as president of both Mattress by Appointment and Mattress Wholesale. Apart from his work life, Edwin Shoffner is an avid fan of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets and holds season tickets to the team’s home games.

In June 2018, the Charlotte Hornets tapped local radio host Chris Kroeger to serve as the team’s new play-by-play announcer. Kroeger has been the host of the popular Prime Time program on WFNZ in Charlotte since 2014 and has been involved in various aspects of the team’s radio broadcasts for the past three years. He assumes the role of longtime Hornets announcer Steve Martin who retired after this past season.

In his comments, Kroeger said the chance he’s been given to fill this position is an “opportunity of a lifetime” and he hopes that he can be as successful as his predecessor. In addition to his duties as the main play-by-play commentator, Kroeger will be featured prominently on the team’s digital and social media channels.
